September, 2026. We went to see the newly completed trestles over Crockery Creek. We parked at Nunica Junction, 16980 Main St. in Nunica (next to the post office). Parking lot repaved with new signage. Restored caboose, picnic shelter and plastic job site restroom. The ribbon cutting for these two trestles was back in June. Very nicely done trestles and much safer. Beautiful craftsmanship. You take a one mile hike on a dirt path to get to. Possibly rideable on a gravel bike. We opted to go on foot. There are large tree branches hanging over the bridges and railing just hoping no storms knock them down which could damage the railings/bridges before the trail ever gets anywhere. Trees are awfully close to the bridges, maybe there are plans to cut back and remove. Trail is not 18 miles in length, someday in the future there are plans to continue to Coopersville. This is 2026, so we will see when. As of now trail is 6ish miles from Nunica to Spring Lake plus this 1 mile dirt section towards Coopersville.
September, 2026. We entered this trail from the White Lake Pathway. Biked to North Muskegon and back on this trail. Most of the trail is straight as an arrow with a few turns which go around the old rail line. Mostly open skies, some shaded areas along the trail. Asphalt pavement in very good condition. We found a restaurant off Tyler road that is trail friendly. Mile markers along the trail which indicate the distance between there and Hart, MI. We also biked the Hart-Montague Trail from White Lake Pathway.
My review was not supposed to be five was unable to add it should only be a three maybe
Started at the D Ave entrance road to Marken glen area then up to Patterson rd. has many tree roots coming through the pavement plus the transition between the bridges and the trail are terrible and dangerous,(drops in height)If you don’t know the trail go very slow as it is very curvy and hilly plus bumps. It may be a fun trail for the young, but not these 69 year-old folks. It is scenic but when you have to watch for the bumps it’s hard to enjoy. have to watch for bumps, you don’t enjoy it as much.
September, 2026. We parked in Gobles and headed West to the Lake Eleven area and back. Old trail surface from Gobles to Bloomingdale. Though old, and sometimes dirt and/or grass and not very wide, easy to ride on. Mostly shaded as it travels through woodlands/forests. Before Bloomingdale there is a nice one-mile paved section through town. West of Bloomingdale to South Haven the trail has been resurfaced with new crushed limestone. We found it to be loose and more difficult than the packed dirt on the old section. Interesting historical signs along the trail. Gobles has trail services nearby. Trail services in Bloomingdale as well. Parking at each of these locations. However the restroom along the trail in Bloomingdale was rated one of the top 10 worst restrooms ever by my husband. No vent or window, more flies than ever and most awful stench. We were ok with this trail since though not very scenic, though we enjoyed reading the interesting historical signs and the shade.
This trail is beautiful. If we do it again, I think we would start at Baldwin Park and ride over to Tower Park. There’s a lot of sun on the west side of the trail. It’s also great that it connects to the Heartland trail so you can take that to Flat River Brewing. They have great beer, flat bread pizzas and meatloaf sandwiches.
Don’t be fooled by the photos of the path, IT IS PRETTY MUCH ALL GRAVEL. I went with a friend on this trail expecting maybe a small gravel segment and mostly paved, however it was definitely not. It’s a pretty trail, but not what was advertised. If you’re into gravel riding, you’d love it, but it’s intense. Pretty good scenery, but should be advertised as gravel.
The trail is narrow and tight all throughout, and one section is eroding away into a nearby stream, so you might want to avoid this one.
The low elevation will provide a good workout for those looking for it, and this is a pretty decent trail.
It's a short but nice trail. Nothing really to see/do.
