Virgil L. Gilman Trail

This is not a road bike trail

September, 2021 by dtxzhzypbc

This is a solid low pressure multi-use trail that is in good shape. It provides the rider with some Urban, Suburban, Industrial and Country scenery. There are numerous parking lots for easy access to the trail. You will enjoy riding past golf courses, wetlands, BlackBerry Farm and taking a lap around the Waubonsee Valley Community College Campus. There are a number of roads to cross on the east side of the Fox river, so heading to the West provides a more relaxing experience. The bottom line is that if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the River Trails to the North, throw your bikes on your rack and enjoy the fall colors on the V.L. Gilman trail!

Seven Waters Bike Trail

Nice trail for a day ride

September, 2021 by stvatandem

We started at the Congress St Trailhead in Burlington and rode north to where the trail crosses Heg Park Rd. and turned around (needed to get back by lunchtime). The trail is primarily dirt, which was fine for our gravel tandem. While the trail crosses RT-36 (no signals, just a painted crosswalk), the traffic was light enough for us to get by. The median is wide enough to safely stop in if traffic is busy. The turn from the parking area at Saller Woods is a bit sandy and can lead to wipe-outs. It really needs to be wider and less sharply curved. The section of the trail from N Browns Lake Dr through Case Eagle Park out to Buck Rd (in Waterford) is paved and is a delight to ride on. North of Beck Dr (RT-20) it's back to dirt. Overall a nice ride for the morning.

Long Prairie Trail

Nice ride

September, 2021 by chirx66

I rode the entire length ( except for The Stone bridge Trail Portion at the end). I agree with other riders that the asphalt is bumpy and repairs are needed in some sections. However, the trail is flat, tree covered and pretty much an easy ride. The trail head in Capron ( at least I think that’s Capron) has parking, facilities, and a picnic table which was nice. I would recommend everyone to ride this trailleast once

Great Western Trail (IL)

Another Great Ride!

September, 2021 by bazjkm2

09/01/2021 - Excellent trail. Beautiful September day for a ride. This is a well maintained trail perfect for road or mountain bikes. Rode from Sycamore trail head to the St. Charles ( LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve) head and back. I can highly recommend to any biker looking for a great ride. And a special thanks to the gentleman who joined me spontaneously for part of the way. Good conversation always makes the miles go fast.

Glacial Drumlin State Trail

Ok but not a lot of features

September, 2021 by gmeister50

I started at the trail head in Cottage Grove. Paid my $5 and took off east. The path is mostly crushed lime stone and nice riding. It has slight grades but no hills. The trail is mostly straight and flat which is why I say it lacks features. Yes I know it is a converted train tracks. Lots of farms and fields with flowers. (features?) Also tree lined. It goes by many small towns along the way but they looked deserted. Didn't see many people.
I think riding the IPP and Fox River trail is better.

B.BABZ, southbound to zoo, August 2021

September, 2021 by billsandy1

Rode Greenway Trail for the 1st time, southbound from Addison. Essential to constantly pay attention to where you’re going. Had to stop to use detailed trail map a few times/TrailLink app. No sign telling you to exit Illinois Prairie Path in Elmhurst. No direction given at end of Rex Avenue: go left thru residential or right to enter Sleepy Hollow Park? Went left but no trail signs. Went back, entered park behind a guard rail where you’ll ride on a wood chips trail. At Butterfield, didn’t see direction on where to pick up the trail on the other side. (thru the parking lot behind an office building to the S.E. corner). TrailLink app is a must with occasional stops to check it. Not all that enjoyable for me. Rated Fair. Henry entered park behind a guard rail,Where are you encounter a wood chips trail. At Butterfield,

Palatine Trail

Nice trail with minor stops in between !!

August, 2021 by rajbms

I was looking for parking on Dundee rd to get into this trail, then realized I had to park in the Deer Grove trail and then cross Dundee and get into the trail. It’s was really nice and smooth ride until Hicks rd. After that there were multiple minor stops. But overall it was good to ride this trail. Really liked the atmosphere and the clean and well maintained path. Overall good experience!!!

Deer Grove Trail

Good not so crowded trail.

Explored the east side of this trail and was really good and well maintained. Good for road bikes as well. West side looked somewhat deserted and the roads to parking was not that great. East side is really good.

Sugar River Bike Trail

August, 2021 by sjfontherun

Such a terrible disappointment! Shame on the Wisconsin Department of resources for not maintaining this trail! We biked this trail about 20+ years ago with our children and it was wonderful. We started in Brodhead and we biked to Monticello and back to Brodhead. Yesterday my husband and I started in New Glarus and we biked to Albany and back to New Glarus. The only highlight was breakfast at the M&M Café in Monticello. This cafe has not changed in 20 some years💕.
I honestly don’t think there has been any crushed lime stone put down in that trail since we biked it last. Why is the department of natural resources not maintaining this trail? You have an absolute gold mind here, please realize it’s a value and put some time into it. Cut the grass on both sides of the trail, put down new lime stone!
The Chalet Landhaus is a wonderful place to stay a New Glarus, it is right on the trail.

Poplar Creek Trail
