Tunnel is closed. I ventured over the top and it's tough
as of Nov-25 the National Tunnel is closed. See here for more details: https://www.observer-reporter.com/news/local-news/2025/nov/25/national-tunnel-on-montour-trail-closed-due-to-deteriorating-ceiling/
I went to the Alexander Rd trailhead on 10/25/25 planning to ride south over Brandywine Falls area, but the trail is completely blocked off with fencing and heavy equipment for an apparent repair. It was disappointing, but I rode north into the Bedford reservation instead for a hilly, beautiful ride. Just wanted everyone to be aware of the closure. There is no posting when it may be opening again.
I’m a newer rider and decided to ride from Ira trailhead north to Boston Mills. It was about a 14 mile round trip, mostly flat ride. It was absolutely beautiful for a crisp, fall ride! There were some areas of congestion along the way, but most of the ride was quiet and relaxing. I look forward to trying other areas of the trail!
Really nice views, very scenic at parts, and get to ride by some cool landmarks
Just got done this trail 10/9. Gap trail is a wonderful easy ride. Places we stayed were awesome! Bright Morning B&B, Ohiopyle suites. We stayed in the Karly. It was great! Right off the trail!! Coffee shop is great too. They also have a laundromat. We then traveled to Meyersdale where we stayed in the hotel airstream! Gotta stay here! It was great! Know that if you need to take the train back to Pittsburgh like we had too, it can run late. 5hrs for us. We met so many nice people along the way. That’s what I think of when I think of this trail!
Enjoyed another very nice ride on this trail. Though the entire length is nearly 12 miles long, the section to the East of Route 19 is paved and very nice. We get in some good miles by going back and forth. Leaves are only beginning to change, early October.
Though roughly 2.5ish miles in length, the trail is always enjoyable to be on. This time of the year it's not real buggy. Trail is paved and in decent condition. The posts at the end of the trail have recently been painted by a member of Mercer County Trails Association.
We just finished the GAP trail & C&O towpath 9/20 from Pittsburgh to DC. We took 8 days and our days ranged between 32 miles to 63 miles. Highly recommend this trail. Well maintained, accessible and clean port a John’s, always had plenty of toilet paper and were frequent enough to remove any anxiety about not being able to relieve yourself in privacy. Potable water was available along the trail which we still used a filter just to be safe. Beautiful trail, friendly riders and towns to visit. We rented a full sized SUV in DC and dropped it off at the Budget on Stanwix St just two blocks from fountain starting point. Worked perfectly to get going on our ride without delay.
Went from Nth River Road to Orwell. Ate at the Homestead Diner just east of the trail on Route 322. Amish Cooking. Excellent. Have a slice of the pumpkin pie. The bridge is no longer out.
This is by far the worst bike I have ever rode on. There is trash everywhere. tree limps are grown far into the trail, broken glass windows everywhere on the trail and old furniture is the type of view that you are subject to enjoy. I would rather take my chances riding on the streets of Warren, then on that trail.
