Border-to-Border Trail

Urban Ride

February, 2017 by olyolson

2/17/17 Parker Mill to to west side of Bandemer park.I give this section 5 stars for the ability to travel through a big town of Ann Arbor and only have to cross one major road, doing this on my mountain bike. I was surprised of the quite wooded sections, and many walking trails along the river. There is no easy way to bike around the perimeter of Ann Arbor. This trail is a great ride right through the middle of town with out being on the shoulder of a road. Will play important role on the Border to Border system.

Baw Beese Trail

Pleasant Ride

February, 2017 by ruthvkakogiannos

We rode from the parking lot across from McDonald's in Jonesville to Union St in Hillsdale and back this afternoon. There is a nice stretch through the woods and beside the St Joseph River in Jonesville and again in Hillsdale. Most of the route between the two towns parallel s M99 and is, therefore, not scenic. We still enjoyed the ride and plan to ride this trail again sometime starting at the lake in Hillsdale.

Wayne County Metroparks Trail

This trail has it all

February, 2017 by olyolson

I ride this trail every week 26 miles round trip.It has 3 big hills that take me right down into low gears.Really good work out.Lots of smaller hills. You only cross two roads from north end to nature center at south end and very little traffic on those roads.Very scenic with wildlife everywhere.I often see herds of deer in the Willow section(as many as 30 in a group)Never a boring ride.Road bikes to (Rollerblades with biggest wheels possible)will enjoy this trail.Connector trail at I275 near Huron River bridge can then get you on the I275 bike trail then will connect to Hines park trail and other trails.Try this trail, you will be surprised.

2/11/17 Hamburg to west side of Pinckney is 8.5 miles of smoothe pavement.Rodebikes to rollerblades will enjoy this section.Warm today 44 degrees and thawing.Unpaved section west of Pinckney today was tough go.Soft, wet, and divits slowed me down to 6 mph on my mountain bike.Still I plowed on to Gregory. Can't wait to try again when trail dry's up.

Calhoun County Trailway

Beautiful scenery and some nice hills

February, 2017 by marklelle

I've ridden the trail with my road bike and haven't had any issues, but some riders will prefer a mountain bike because of the stone surface. The scenery is beautiful with great boardwalks and a lovely route through the Ott Preserve, which I had never seen before. The trailhead near Battle Creek is a short bike ride away from the Battle Creek Linear Park trail.

North Central State Trail

Share the trail with some animal buddies

December, 2016 by spm138

Biked from Gaylord to Topinabee. The trail is very nice and secluded. Check the wind direction before you begin. We had a strong headwind for some of the ride. However, even with the wind there were areas where you tucked behind the trees. Trail is cinder and moves from farmland to forest. Deer, Skunks, Racoons, and Fox all shared the trail or crossed it during our ride. Sheep and goats grazed in fields along the way. Very enjoyable and crosses creeks and rivers with bridges that tempt you into a water stop. Just outside of Topinabee (Breakers) is a bar/restaurant (about 33 miles of biking). It is parallel to the trail on the left and hard to miss. Reward was a great beer, wonderful atmosphere, and the food (did not eat) looked great. Next year plan to do the trail from Mackinaw.

Trails are great

December, 2016 by laura_prutch

I have not lived in Michigan in a lot of years but I will be relocating soon. I lived in Colorado Springs for the last ten years and have survived without a car and mostly relied on safe and shortcut trails. The trail system is great and whenever I see trash or graffiti I always try to do my part in at least picking up the trash and dispose of it. After all it's up to every individual to do their part if we want a beautiful earth. Just sayin...

Fred Meijer Flat River Valley Rail Trail

Started in Lowell

November, 2016 by rosedurst

I drove to Lowell to take this trail north from there. It is not paved. It is rocks about the size of a small fist at least where it starts in Lowell. I was on my mountain bike, but only ended up going a short ways along it as the size of the rocks made it very bumpy and for me unpleasant. I ended up taking the shorter paved trail that started at cedar park and went to the high school and back.

Lakelands Trail State Park

Good to terrible

November, 2016 by dje.ellsworth

From Hamburg this is a nice trail. Just to see it I rode the .4K east to the end from Hall road. There it is completely blocked with a barricade and dense trees and brush.

Going West it's nice asphalt just beginning to crack in some places. Lovely mix of scenery. Just past Pinckney you have to cross busy highway 36. At that point the trail is the mentioned limestone surface and relatively hard and not bumpy. I've been on worse pavement. There are a number of bridges and the transitions of this limestone part are excellent - better than the asphalt bridge transitions.

Unfortunately this part of the trail is only good to the Unadilla township line just before you cross highway 36 again.

I did continue to ride from the line the 300 or so yards to 36 but it was cautious going on my road bike. At 36 I looked down the trail and it was 2 track and seemed sandier yet. I wasn't even tempted to fight it and just turned around. Wider knobby rides would probably be okay.

With the scenery and central state access this has the potential to be one of the better touring trails in Michigan. Someone should push the legislature to putt priority to this trail.

Milford Trail

Excellent trail lacking signs

November, 2016 by dje.ellsworth

I included this as part of a long ride from South Lyons City Trail, Huron Valley Trail, Island Lake Pathway, Kensington Metropark trail, and Milford Trail to Milford and back. Excellent trail. Good surface, nice variety, pretty scenery. On the Milford end it's difficult to find. My friend said back of the YMCA but there's lots of roads there to various parking areas and the trail is further back still.

At the other end there are a couple of Y junctions and it's not clear which to take. Even in Kensington it's not clear where to go. It's in serious need of signs. It's unfortunate because it's a great trail overall. I'm giving it a 4 for the signage problems.
