Fred Meijer Grand River Valley Rail Trail

Trial not complete

May, 2017 by rachellynn

We live in the Lowell area and I was excited to find this new trail for us to ride. But when we went to the beginning (corner of Grand River and Montalm Ave) all we found was an overgrown area that once was rr tracks. It was piled with loose rocks and there was no way you'd be able to ride a bike on it. We were disappointed. Hopefully it gets finished soon. The section starting in Saranac heading to Ionia good though. We ride that often.

North Western State Trail

Super smooth

May, 2017 by teddgram

I rode this during the summer of 2016 on our ride from Grand Rapids to the Mackinaw Bridge. This was by far one of the best sections of our ride. The state has taken a lot of precautions to make sure that this trail is to not be used by snowmobilers or ATVs. The surfarce may be dirt (or gravel), but it's so smooth it could easily be enjoyed by a road biker.

Western Gateway Trail

A ride from home

May, 2017 by gjswitek

A wonderful trail to ride for exercise and a great route to get from home to downtown Ironwood or out to Walmart. Interesting railroad history on displays along the route to Bessemer and some nice scenery, wonderful old bridges and trestles, and varied landscape. There are few road crossings and little cross traffic, but the short stretch along U.S. 2 is a bit noisy.

Fred Meijer Heartland Trail

Great hidden gem!

May, 2017 by jarboe

Rode this trail on a Friday in late April. We had the trail to ourselves. Did not see another person for the first 13 miles. With the exception of when we went through the small towns we probably saw no more than ten people over 67 round trip miles. We did see deer, wild turkey, blue heron, and a snapping turtle. Trail is all paved, well maintained, flat, and pretty straight. Nice bridges. Great ride.

Bay County Riverwalk/Railtrail System

Ok for a stroll on a fat tire bike very bumpy. Rough trail not great for a road bike unless you have 28mm tires.

Pere Marquette State Trail

Not the most boring trail I've ever ridden,...

April, 2017 by pjrobar

that would be the Pere Marquette Trail—at least the section from Midland to Coleman.

I rode from Clare to Evart and back so my comments only apply to the paved part of the trail.

While it's much better isolated from the sight and traffic noise of Highway 10—even when it's close by—than the Pere Marquette Trail, the sides of the trail are so wide and manicured that it really detracts from the sense of being out in nature. The fact that the trail is so wide and straight further contributes to it feeling more like you're on a bike highway than a trail. I much prefer the Fred Meijer Heartland Trail that runs from Alma to Greenville.

Plus one for the smooth, seamless trail surface that's great for fast riding and plus one to make up for the one star review of another reviewer.

Hampton Township Nature Trail

First ride of the year

April, 2017 by tsymborski

This a nice easy trail to ride. Well maintained, with parking at both ends of the trail. The trailhead at the end of Jones Rd. has Porta-Jon's. Along the way I saw Red Squirrels, a dozen Box Turtles and the occasional Crains.

Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park

Big bump at mile 17.8

April, 2017 by badh

Lovely trail. My wife and I bike it at least twice a week when we are home.
It would be very nice if someone could sand down/fix the awful 2" bump on the small wood bridge at mile 17.8 going north between Cedar Springs and Sand Lake.

Border-to-Border Trail

Urban Ride

February, 2017 by olyolson

2/17/17 Parker Mill to to west side of Bandemer park.I give this section 5 stars for the ability to travel through a big town of Ann Arbor and only have to cross one major road, doing this on my mountain bike. I was surprised of the quite wooded sections, and many walking trails along the river. There is no easy way to bike around the perimeter of Ann Arbor. This trail is a great ride right through the middle of town with out being on the shoulder of a road. Will play important role on the Border to Border system.

Baw Beese Trail

Pleasant Ride

February, 2017 by ruthvkakogiannos

We rode from the parking lot across from McDonald's in Jonesville to Union St in Hillsdale and back this afternoon. There is a nice stretch through the woods and beside the St Joseph River in Jonesville and again in Hillsdale. Most of the route between the two towns parallel s M99 and is, therefore, not scenic. We still enjoyed the ride and plan to ride this trail again sometime starting at the lake in Hillsdale.

Wayne County Metroparks Trail

This trail has it all

February, 2017 by olyolson

I ride this trail every week 26 miles round trip.It has 3 big hills that take me right down into low gears.Really good work out.Lots of smaller hills. You only cross two roads from north end to nature center at south end and very little traffic on those roads.Very scenic with wildlife everywhere.I often see herds of deer in the Willow section(as many as 30 in a group)Never a boring ride.Road bikes to (Rollerblades with biggest wheels possible)will enjoy this trail.Connector trail at I275 near Huron River bridge can then get you on the I275 bike trail then will connect to Hines park trail and other trails.Try this trail, you will be surprised.

2/11/17 Hamburg to west side of Pinckney is 8.5 miles of smoothe pavement.Rodebikes to rollerblades will enjoy this section.Warm today 44 degrees and thawing.Unpaved section west of Pinckney today was tough go.Soft, wet, and divits slowed me down to 6 mph on my mountain bike.Still I plowed on to Gregory. Can't wait to try again when trail dry's up.
