Montour Trail - Airport Connector

coyote sightings

June, 2020 by jlhendricks1965

Just wanted to make people aware that the last 2 times I biked this trail I saw a coyote. Please be aware of your surroundings. The first time it bolted when it saw me but the second time it ran parallel to me for abt 40 feet. I was just abt to do a u-turn and it ran into the woods. I just want to remind everyone you are in what is left of the woods in these areas so please keep your eyes open as these animals don’t have a lot of places to go. I also saw one on the Montour Trail this year near mile marker 5 and last night there was a wounded raccoon lying in the middle of the Montour Trail near mile marker 15.

Stavich Bicycle Trail

First and Final Ride here

June, 2020 by bcavanaugh1

Rail Trails are ridden for the pleasure, recreation, and enjoyment of the bike and nature. This trail, in Pennsylvania is in good condition and enjoyable. As soon as it crosses over into Ohio, it is absolutely Horrible. In fact, Horrible is too kind a word. Be warned. It is not pleasant. There are creaks, heaves, bumps that will drop your speed down to 2 -3 mph (if you stay with it). Ohio should be embarrassed. It is apparent nothing has been done since its opening in 1983. (See dedication sign at Ohio side start). From the New Castle start/ trailhead, would suggest stopping at the Ohio line approx. 7.5 miles, and turnaround. Western PA has so many trails to choose from that this will be our last visit here. Final Note: No restrooms, No port-a-johns, anywhere along entire route. Poor design again.

June 2020 Ride

June, 2020 by vicki1960

Biked this trail as an addition to the Niles Greenway trail. Seamless connection at the Trumbull and Mahoning County lines.
Great asphalt paved trail is just under 11 miles in length.
Construction still at Kirk Road. They are building a tunnel for the trail which will go under the Ohio turnpike. Follow short and well constructed trail detour.

Wheeling Heritage Trails

Great trail but don't ride a road bike.

June, 2020 by mdrennard

I started at the southern-most part of the trail (48th St & Water St) and rode north. Despite the fact that the trail was paved, there were a lot of cracks and bumps in the pavement. After about 15 minutes I wished I brought my mountain bike rather than my road bike. Once I got through the downtown Wheeling area and north, the pavement smoothed out. I got as far north as Warwood and had to turn around because the weather was beginning to get bad. If you plan on riding this trail, be aware that it is rather bumpy for a road bike with no suspension.

Conotton Creek Trail

A truly rural ride on a rail trail

June, 2020 by dominox10

It can be a little hot at the two ends of the trail as there is no close to the trail vegetation, however it is worth the sweat. There is an ice cream stand right off the trail about midway should you want to get a snack or something to keep you cool. The bridges, the lily ponds, the wildlife, the way this trail has been lovingly cared for by volunteers makes it a unique place to ride.

Conotton Creek Trail

Loved the Scenery

June, 2020 by rwest1

This well-maintained asphalt path made for a fun 44 miler on the gravel bikes. We rode it twice to get some extra miles. The covered bridges and tree canopy kept us in the shade most of the day.

Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail

Great shade!

June, 2020 by optkathy

I live in the CVNP and do allot of riding by my home. Due to COVID the Tow Path and Bike and Hike have been so busy. Coming here was so refreshing! The trail is beautiful and shady! Definitely worth the drive. So sad that Lisbon is struggling so bad. I look forward to The Courthouse Inn & Restaurant to open again soon.

Moraine State Park Bike Trail

My Favorite Local Trail

June, 2020 by cta396

I must say, this trail has grown on me and is now my favorite local spot to get in a good workout. The trail has great scenery and, unlike the mostly level rail trails, this one has lots of twists, turns, and small hills to keep it interesting. While short, a fast paced blast from the bike rental parking area to the marina and back gives you a good workout and can be done in less than an hour.

Montour Trail

Great first experience

June, 2020 by daringdirk1

I rode Montour Trail from mile 0.0 to 11.4 as my first Rail Trail experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The trail was in great condition with lots of interesting scenery and cool bridges and tunnels. There is a slight, but steady, uphill grade from about Mile 8-11, which I considered to be a nice challenge without being too taxing. As other note, there are some industrial sections of the trail.

Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail

Fun and relaxing. The trail is paved and well maintained. Also, it's flat from soup to nuts so no back breaking, leg shredding hills. Get out here and try this trail!

Greene River Trail

Nice trail, a pleasant surprise

June, 2020 by vdeal

Rode the trail with my wife and was pleasantly surprised. Nice surface with a few small ups and downs. TrailLink is wrong however on the length of the trail. It has been extended - we rode 6 miles before turning around. The Greene County website says the trail is 7.24 miles and ends at the Jessop Boat Club. Do not use their address for the Boat club however - it just points to the middle of Carmichaels, PA. As far as I can tell the southern trailhead is at the end of the Jacobs Ferry Road along the Monongahela River. I will be back to ride to the end. I will note the the trail posts on this trail are closer together than about any I've seen though.

Brooke Pioneer Trail

Alert - trail closure

June, 2020 by cornells_tl

The first 2.5 miles of trail south of Wellsburg are closed as of June 2020. A bridge is being built across the river. The trail is torn up and being used for contractor access. Bridge completion is expected in 2022, and the trail will need to be rebuilt/restored.

Route 2 is two lanes with narrow shoulders and a hill in either direction. The speed limit is 55, 45 through the construction zone. I felt comfortable riding on the roadway, but many people won't. I wouldn't recommend that casual or beginner cyclists ride the road.
