Wapsi-Great Western Line Trail

Nice summer trail

July, 2020 by michael barnard

I returned to this trail this year. However I started in Elma and rode to the Minnesota border. They are putting up more signage on the trail. There was water covering a portion on the north branch, north of McIntyre on the trail. It was shallow enough to ride through. A lot of different scenery on the trail.

Prairie Farmer Recreational Trail

Returned to the Prairie Farmer Trail

I returned to the Prairie Farmer Trail this year. Started in Cresco and ended in Calmar. The ride was nice and level. Several places to so stop and rest if need be.

Cinder Path

Surprising discovery!

July, 2020 by alisonmarian

Family ride with our 5 yo on a pull-behind trailer wheel bike. Started in Derby (after lunch and homemade dessert at Grassroots Cafe in Humeston) and did about 12 miles round trip. Flat, shady, and quiet. Stayed cool despite mid-July heat. You can tell they have done a lot of work on the trail recently—new bridges and gravel in multiple sections. Cute covered bridge! Had worried it would be too rough for us based on reviews. But hybrids managed soft spots no problem. Only thing we didn’t plan for was that cinder dust is extra messy (but for kiddo that was just a bonus).

Iowa Great Lakes Trail

Fantastic ride

July, 2020 by jennyjune.chambers

This is a great trail. However, we only did 1/2 of it. We started out at the beginning of the trail on the east side of Big Spirit Lake and rode south to Memorial Park. Then we headed back the way we came, but continued West around Big Spirit Lake. This was nearly 16 miles. The directions tell you to park on a gravel lot on 253rd about 1/2 of a mile before the end point. We drove down to the end point to check it out and found several spots along the side of the road where you could park. It was nice to start the trail at the beginning because you get to ride through soy and corn fields. There are a few spots where signage could be improved. But if you just keep in mind that you should always be able to see the lake then you'll intuitively know which direction to go. One of the things I really like about this trail is how little you are on the road. It's nice to be away from cars. Memorial Park was a great spot to stop and have lunch. There are at least 2 covered picnic areas. And there are fairly decent rest rooms. The trail on the west side of Big Spirit Lake ends at an RV park. We rode around in there and realized they have awesome views of the lake. We'll try to stay here in our rig sometime.

It’s a pretty nice rides. Some of the asphalt has holes and cracks in it but just watch where you ride. Trail is mainly covered by trees so very shady.

Sac and Fox Trail

I love the Sac and Fox trail!

June, 2020 by jen111

This is a great trail that passes through the SE of Cedar Rapids, along the Cedar River and Indian Creek. It’s mostly crushed limestone and very wide in most places. Moderate rolling hills in some areas. Lots of shade. It can get muddy at times and also floods in some places. But it’s a lovely trail and easier on runners’ knees.

Mahaska Community Recreation Trail
