River front Trail & mississippi trail

February, 2017 by twotrikes

Ride the Iowa trail to Lindsey Park in Davenport, and take water taxi to Illinois. There ride the Mississippi trail west to Sunset park or east to Savanna Illinois, about 70 miles. There are 3 campgrounds on the Illinois side.
The water taxi is seasonal and daily pass ($) available.
An alternate crossing is the bridge at the Rock Island Arsenal. (HELMETS ARE REQUIRED at Arsenal)

Grant Wood Trail (Linn County Segment)

Rustic, quiet, partially abandoned, still enjoyable !

January, 2017 by sneaky pete

You may not want to try this on a narrow-tired road bike, the surface is largely either turf, sand, or rocky turf :)

The Westernmost segment is about 3.2 miles long, somewhere in the middle there is maybe 50-75 yards of boggy (wet) grass from a spring, your tires may cut in a little.

It's about .7 miles of surface roads to the Center segment, which is about 2.3 miles long.

The Easternmost segment appears to have been abandoned. The TrailLink map shows the West end of this segment beginning at Alderman Rd, but, I don't think that the trail is accessible there unless you ride a fat bike and enjoy serious boon-docking. There -is- access to the Easternmost segment at Linn Grove Rd, (about 3.3 miles of Gravel roads from the East end of the Center segment), but, it's only passable going East, and then only for about .25 miles of nearly knee-high grass, until it dead-ends into a fence.

Heritage Trail (IA)

Our absolute favorite trail in Iowa.

November, 2016 by mummer005

Iowas great secret! We went to "destination trail" in Minnesota the week before our 1st visit to Heritage Trail and I was afraid of being underwhelmed by a nearby Iowa trail.Wrong! This the Root River Trail, just on a smaller scale. It is a beautiful, scenic, historic trail and such a magical place.Durango is a great starting place going in either direction.A must do in our state!

Grant Wood Trail (Linn County Segment)

A different kind of ride.

November, 2016 by mummer005

A great trail if you want to try a more primitive bike ride.I used a mountain bike and glad I did. This is mostly a grass trail with a gravel rut to run on,I saw a few walkers with dogs but no other bikers. It has great potential! Rode 1st 2 segments starting from Highway 13 going east and ran out time as I averaged about 8 mph because it's a little slower going.A cool change of pace from the normal Cedar Rapids paved trails!

High Trestle Trail

Great Trail

October, 2016 by dds4ui

I sincerely appreciate that this trail is directly adjacent to Audubon's airport. We were able to fly in and unload our bikes. We were immediately on the trail. Terminal facilities at Audubon's were airport were first rate and clean. The trail it's self was excellent and being able to ride from town to town made it more fun....Great ride!

Cedar Valley Nature Trail

Cedar Valley Trail

October, 2016 by trailsguy88

This is a great trail for novice riders, or those getting into shape. It's an old rail trail, so it's flat. It's very scenic and a nice ride. There is trail damage from a recent flood and a section near Waterloo is completely washed out. It's closed there, but you can get through if you can carry your bike. I did almost 27 miles and greatly enjoyed it!

Three Rivers Trail

A Peaceful Run

October, 2016 by wpanbecker

I run this trail at least 4-5 times a week and I never get tired of it. My route usually consists of the miles between the trailhead in Rolfe and a few miles outside of Bradgate. It is a quite and easy run. There are cricks and rivers all along this route which provide many wildlife spotting.

I would highly recommend this trail to anyone!

Awesome Trail for Fat Bikes

October, 2016 by chuck.muckamuck

If you are on a fat bike this one should be on your list. There are large sections of crushed limestone, some very short sections of pavement and some good deal of trail that is not groomed well.

On my fat bike the "not groomed well" sections make me very happy.

The only complaint I would voice is that it is not marked well. Riding east from Slater I had to cut it short in Maxwell as I lost the trail.

Note: this is for gravel bikes and fat bikes. For roady-racers try the High Trestle trail
