Great Miami River Trail

Middletown Section to University of Dayton Athletic Complex

February, 2018 by orangedoug

I rode this section of the trail north in August 2017. Like the rest of the trail it is well-maintained and signed. The Middletown section is the most industrial portion of the trail. There is a 1.5 mile gap between where the trail ends north of Middletown and where it picks up again just south of Franklin, Ohio. This gap can be bridged by riding the shoulder of Route 73 until you reach Baxter Road. Route 73 is a divided roadway so the cars and trucks are traveling at high speed. Fortunately, the shoulder is pretty wide and the distance can be covered in 10-15 minutes. Once you are back on the trail heading north, you pass through the cities/towns of Franklin, Miamisburg, and West Carrolton before reaching Dayton and the UD campus. Like much of this trail the towns and cities nearby embrace the trail and cater to cyclists. This section of the trail is the least shaded of all, so those with fair skin definitely should lather up with sunscreen. You might also want to consider the temperature forecast before riding this section as it was pretty hot during my August ride.

Great Miami River Trail

Troy to University of Dayton Athletic Complex

February, 2018 by orangedoug

This is a great trail. The surface is in good shape and the route is well signed. Despite traveling through the suburban/urban setting of the Great Miami River watershed much of this ride feels as though you are in a park like setting. Worth checking out more than once.

Great Miami River Trail

Southern Section of the GMRT

January, 2018 by orangedoug

On April 2, 2017, I rode the southern portion of the Great Miami River Trail from Fairfield, OH to Rentschler Forest MetroPark at the Reigart Road Entrance northeast of Hamilton, OH. Here the trail ends as there is a gap from here to the northern portion of the trail which picks up south of Middletown, OH. The round trip was just over 20 miles. This section of the trail is well marked. I was especially impressed that almost all of the driftwood and litter debris that the Great Miami River had deposited along the trail when the water level had been higher, had been moved off of the trail by either volunteers or City of Hamilton workers. It is nice to see the pride in what the trail means to the community. I'd love to see the gap between the Hamilton and Middleton sections of this trail completed and the GMRT become one continuous trail.

Good trail for biking. A great use for an older trail. Some roots are poking up at the end but generally smooth and flat

Camp Chase Trail

Great condition, lots of miles and not crowded

October, 2017 by 2cvmail

Great way to get in and out of the city, and it’s fairly scenic once you get outside the city. A rails w/trails, so it’s straight and flat and great for biking.

Camp Chase Trail is a new part of the 320 mile Ohio-to-Erie Trail, and this section is much less crowded than other popular bike trails in Columbus.

Wilson Road Park has seasonal bathrooms, a bike repair station and a water fountain, and there is also bike repair stations at Wilson Rd Park and at the base of the Hilltop Connector Bridge.

Columbus Westside Running Club maintains the Trail with monthly litter cleanups. Give it a try if you haven’t already!

Alum Creek Greenway Trail

Nice trail through metro areas

October, 2017 by fhunker

Very pretty trail from Westerville south to Three Creeks Park. A trail of bridges--more than other local trails for the distance travelled. So far, in good shape, but much of this trail is new so one would expect it to be. Far less traffic than the Olentangy Trail to the west, so for a north-south route in the metro Columbus area, hard to beat.

T. J. Evans Trail

Nice trail but road bikers beware

October, 2017 by fhunker

I have been on this trail three or four times this summer and fall, and many times over the past several years. I would rate this trail a 4-5 BUT on a road bike, will not be a smooth ride, and now developing some serious bumps, one of which west of Granville caught me off-guard and almost threw me off. Parts of the trail have been repaved-those sections are very nice compared to some that have not been repaved. There is a long uphill grade out of Granville to Johnstown, about 11 miles. Hopefully more of the trail will be repaved into 2018.

Xenia-Jamestown Connector

New Jamestown B&B

October, 2017 by sheldyna

I had to tell all my friends about this! I hear there is a hotel motel or bed and breakfast and I think bike shop bike club opening right on the bike path Xenia Jamestown connector right on Verity St. & S. Church. That is so cool and convenient, we use to have to travel back to Xenia or Jeffersonville that is not on the east portion bike path. I will also be the first to try the inn, tent or room with hot water and soft bed and air conditioning or heat depending when I go.

Olentangy Trail

Great bike trail

September, 2017 by fish_boat

We went to Columbus for a few days and my son took me to the Olentangy Bike Path. What a great path for biking, jogging or just walking. We road bikes. We decided to do the whole trail. Where we parked we went south till the trail turned into the Scioto Greenway Trail. Turned back there and when we got back to where we parked we went north till the trail was closed between Worthington Hills Park and Olentangy River. That section is supposed to be open in late 2017. Great scenery. Through wooded areas, past soccer fields, over bridges, under roads and past the Ohio State University campus. All together we road 24 miles. Just one small criticism. There are a couple places where you could get confused which way to go if you never road this trail before. My son has road it many times so it was not a problem for us. I highly recommend taking this trail if you are in the Columbus area. I know I will ride this again in the future

Rode from Urbana to Springfield. Nice, flat paved trail. Very little traffic in the middle of the week. Easy trail to ride.

Marion Tallgrass Trail

awesome trail

We rode Marion Tall Grass yesterday and the trail now goes 12.5 miles. It's a beautiful trail and I hope the Hardin county trail enthusiasts continue it even further. If there is a negative, they need more picnic tables along the way. There are 2 porta pots, one at Holland Rd trailhead and the other at about 9 miles.
