Armleder Park Trail

Adequate for the park.

June, 2021 by sjf0809

I rode around the various loop configurations to make sure I covered all the trails and ended up biking 4.3 miles. Maybe doing the outside loop alone would be the 2 miles written in the description. Some of the surface was in better shape than other places. One could go in the woods by the river to hike or bike on non-paved trails. It is out in the open. A playground, central building and a dog park is also within the park.

I was here in the latter part of May and the Armleder-Lunken Connector Trail was blocked off. It said the trail was closed to work on the bridge. I went on Wooster Pike and saw another cyclist, asking him to verify directions to the Lunken Airport Trail. He was heading there, so we went together, but then went different directions around that loop. That was so nice of him.

Five Mile Trail

Nice trail, but it is hilly

June, 2021 by sjf0809

This is a nice trail with a good paved surface, but no matter which direction you go, you will encounter some hills. It would be a good starting point for hill training, since road traffic would not be a problem.

I started at the southern end of the greenway near the Park and Ride area by the bus terminal (7832 Five Mile Road). This was at the top of the hill, so the ride began with a nice decent. Just keep in mind that you have to go back up the hill when you return to your vehicle. It's about a tenth of a mile long. When going north, the trail goes past a medical complex before it crosses to the west side of Five Mile Road, where more bushes and trees line the route.

After getting to the northern endpoint at Newtown Road, where restrooms are located, I turned around and made the return trip. That hill is more of a long and steady climb. I did take the loop around the Anderson Center and had to wait until 2 families of Canada geese and goslings crossed the path. I started again, but a little too soon, since one parent really hissed at me.

Being able to hop on and off the trail at various places is a good plus for the area. The round trip of 5.15 miles took me about 30 minutes, which included time for photos and the geese crossing.

Williamsburg to Batavia Hike/Bike Trail

Nice trail

June, 2021 by sjf0809

I parked at the Harmony Hill Dairy House, which is east on the long, stone driveway once you arrive at the address via Google map or whatever: 299 S 3rd St. If you use the Community Park, you would have to turn left out of the park and cross traffic and immediately go up a hill, besides other hills. I didn't look into the Community Parking Lot. It was a flat 1/2 mile ride from the Harmony Hill Dairy House to the trailhead.

The trail was nice, sometimes under shade and sometimes out in the open. It is hilly no matter which way you go. One could park/camp at the East Fork State Park and join the trail mid way and go in either direction, since the trail borders the camping registration area. The shoulders were adequate when on the roads. I pedaled the route around 11 am and the traffic was light. On the west endpoint, the trail seemed to go onto residential streets past the houses, but the red line on TraiLink had ended. It will be an even better trail when it is extended.

Ohio River Trail (OH)

Beautiful trail along the Ohio River

June, 2021 by sjf0809

This is a great trail through the International Friendship Park, Bicentennial Commons at Sawyer Point, Yeatman's Cove Park, and Smale Riverfront Park. I wanted to go on the Purple People Bridge, but it was closed (May, 2021) because of falling rock and thus the structure had to be evaluated by engineers before it could be opened again. At the east end of the Ohio River Trail, the path just ended, whereas I thought it went to Lunken Airport Trail. I guess I didn't do my homework well enough or didn't see the signs that said the route went on streets to get to that point. I hope to do that another day, hopefully when the Purple People Bridge is open again.

Miami & Erie Canal Towpath

Spencerville to delphos

May, 2021 by millecs

The path is very nice! We found a nice parking lot/rest area on Zion church road. The path is kept up nicely and shaded most of the way with a tree line. One side is the canal/tree line and the other side is fenced nicely. The way the trees face it would block morning sun. We walked around 7pm. It took about an hour to walk for 4.5-5mile walk into Delphos. Be aware it does abruptly end and turn into grass by a trailer park, but it is easy to get to the road from there.

North Lewisburg Trail

An Isolated Local Rail Trail With One Interesting Feature

May, 2021 by orangedoug

I recently rode an out-and-back ride on the 1.6 mile long North Lewisburg Trail. I started in North Lewisburg in Ohio's Champaign County and rode out to the Pottersburg Bridge found at the end of the trail just off of Innskeep-Cratty Road (County Rd. 163). The highlight of this short trail is the Pottersburg Bridge; a wooden covered bridge that was moved to this trail in order to preserve the historical structure. The surface of the trail is asphalt which is still in fairly good condition but it is beginning to show its age as there are several rough spots caused by tree root uplift.

This rail trail was built upon an abandoned Erie Railroad rail line. The southern end of this same line starts as the Simon Kenton Trail, which currently ends at Urbana, Ohio. This creates the potential to expand this trail and connect it to a much longer regional trail. However, I don't know if there is the will to see such a project through to completion in this mostly agricultural area of Ohio. Currently, this trail is one that serves just the local residents.

North Lewisburg Trail

Nice trail for the area

May, 2021 by sjf0809

The trail follows a stream, is flat and relatively straight. It is a nice trail for the area. I started at the bridge, went to the endpoint in North Lewisburg, and then turned around. My cycle-computer clocked the roundtrip at 3.5 miles. The write-up by TraiLink said there was a second bridge part way on the trail, but I only saw the foundations for one. There was a port-a-pot at the parking lot by the covered bridge. I was there mid April of 2021.

Little Miami Scenic Trail

Great running path

April, 2021 by brandie.heald

I needed to complete an 11 mile run while I was visiting Cincinnati. This trail was well maintained and primarily flat in the section I ran. The scenery was beautiful. I ran early in the morning and had my headlamp and light up vest - felt safe running alone.
